Collaborating with the Palace Museum: The Forbidden City -Preservation of Cultural Assets Project

Institute for Digitization of the Place Museum Heritage
The Palace Museum was the Imperial Palace in Ming and Qing period of China, called "The Forbidden City". Its historical structures are registered as the world heritage by UNESCO and it holds vast range of Chinese Imperial collections. In order to protect, preserve and exhibit these cultural assets with the cutting-edge IT technologies, the Institute for Digitization of the Palace Museum Heritage has been established. This Institute was opened in October 2003 as the stronghold for the joint project between The Palace Museum and Toppan Printing Company in the west side (closed area) inside the site of the Museum.
Masaya Chiba currently serves as Head of the Institute for Digitization of the Palace Museum Heritage. He is also a lecturer of interactive design at the Department of Visual Communication Design, Musashino Art University and a member of Toppan Printing's Info-business Division. 1978-1983 Editing producer of Encyclopedia of Medical Science (Kodansha). 1983-1987 Promoted the Digital Imagery Development Project. 1987-2001 Director of planning and production, Denshi Media Services Co., Ltd. 2001- Participating in the joint project between the Palace Museum and Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. Co-author of Multimedia Keyword Analysis (Nikkei Business Publications), Media Environments (Musashino Art University Publications), and Introduction to the Institute for Digitization of the Palace Museum Heritage.
